ALPENA, MI - The Alpena Hockey team continued their dominating defensive play in a 2-0 shutout victory over the Gabriel Richard Pioneers on Saturday morning at Northern Lights Arena. After a scoreless 1st Period, the Wildcats got on the board when Kyle VanDusen picked the top corner from the right faceoff corner off a feed from Kolby Plowman. The third period saw an increase in physical play from both teams that culminated in a scrum to the right of Cooper Black. Both teams had a player ejected for fighting and a game disqualification. The one goal lead held until a tough shift for the Wildcats paid off when Brett Ciupka was credited with a goal that bounced off of a Pioneer player and into the net. Cooper Black recorded his fourth straight shutout in making 17 saves for the Wildcats. Alpena (4-0-0) open up Big North Conference play next Friday night when the Wildcats travel to Cadillac.
