Wildcats Win Regional Championship

BAY CITY, MI - The Alpena Boys Track team put on a clinic at the MHSAA Regionals and won their first Regional Championship since 1944.  The Wildcats put up a total of 128 points, which was 57 points higher than runner-up Flint Carmen Ainsworth.  Josh Smith (1,600 run), Aden Smith (3,200 run), Gabe Bullis (pole vault) and Eli Winter (shot put) all won regional titles as the Wildcats placed athletes in 8 different state final events.  The 3200 relay team of Josh Smith, Aden Smith, Drew Seabase, and Jadon Duncan set a new school record (7:52.12)in their Regional Championship performance.  The Wildcats also had Seabase (800m), Eli Winter (discus), Arthur Paad (discus), Aden Smith (1600m), Haydn Goebel (110 hurdles), and Josiah Matuzak (pole vault) qualify for the state finals.

The Girls Track team also had three athletes qualify for the state finals with two winning their events.  Faith Weide, who will play at Western Michigan in the fall, won the shot put with a toss of 41 feet, 1 1/4 inches.  Karli Myers won the pole vault with a vault of 9 feet, 3.2 inches.  Maddy Boyd, who will run at Central Michigan in the fall, qualified for the state finals in the 3200m run.

The Division 1 Track State Finals will be June 1 at East Kentwood High School.
