Late Goal Sinks Wildcats in Opener

ALPENA, MI - University Liggett got a goal with 0:15.9 left to knock-off the Wildcats on opening night at Northern Lights Arena on Friday night.  After a scoreless opening period, the Wildcats opened the scoring when Aden Marceau broke in on goal Shorthanded and put in his own rebound past Grant Lindsey for his first career goal.  The Knights tied the game a few minutes later when Alec Leonard blasted a one-timer past Jimmy Bolanowski for the power-play goal.

The Knights had a golden opportunity late in the game when Alpena's Mitch Agius was assessed a major penalty, giving Liggett a five-minute power play.  The Wildcats, led by Bolanowski's strong play, were able to kill off the major penalty with 2:50 to play.  As the clock began to run down the Wildcats turned the puck over along the far half boards and Will Nicholson found a wide-open Rocco Scarfone in the right faceoff circle who beat Bolanowski with 0:15.9 left.

Bolanowski finished the night with 21 saves in net for the Wildcats.  Alpena (0-1-0) wrap-up the weekend when they take on Macomb Dakota at 1:30 pm on Saturday.
