The AHS Top 7 Varsity runners attended the Al Kayner Invitational at Delta College on Saturday, September 23. This was a new event for us and only a 3200m race. The reasoning for selecting this race was to get the teams on the Regional Course in preparation for the Regional Race with is a mere 5 weeks away. Even with the change of mentality in switching from a 5K to 3200m, both varsity teams stepped up the plate and knocked it out of the park! I told them that I wanted them to give 110% and then finish the course with a team jog. We have got to know this course well and have some new members of our varsity squad that need to have a visual. The girls raced 1st with 4 of the 7 receiving medals for being in the top 40 of 65 Division 1/2 runners. Maddy Boyd placed 4th with a time of 11:38 with her teammates finishing 17th-Anna Young, 18th-Molly Dickenson and 36th-Kaylee Rondeau. As a team, they finished 4th behind Bay City, Saginaw Heritage and Midland Dow. The boys raced 2nd with 5 of the 7 receiving medals for being in the top 40 of 95 Division 1/2 runners. Aden Smith ran a time of 9:48 to power through and receive a trophy for the Division 1/2 Champion as well as the Overall Male Athlete of the Meet! He was followed by teammates Drew Seabase-3rd, Josh Smith-8th, Sam Tuscher-31st and Jimmy Decker-36th. The boys team also came home with a Runner Up Trophy for finishing 2nd behind Saginaw Heritage. The teams compete next at the 2nd Big North Conference Meet in Petoskey on Tuesday, October 3.
