Wildcats Skate Past Griffins

GAYLORD, MI - The Alpena Hockey team got two goals within 40-seconds in the 2nd Period and skated past the FNV Griffins, 5-2, on Saturday afternoon at the Division 3 Showcase in Gaylord.  Alpena got on the board midway through the 1st when Keegan Matthews tipped home a Blaise Keller shot to score his first goal of the year.  The Griffins tied the game late in the first period to force a 1-1 tie into the 1st intermission.  The Wildcats would score two goals in forty seconds late in the second period as Kyle VanDusen and Alex Cosbitt would both find the back of the net.  Early in the 3rd Period, the Griffins would close the gap to 3-2 with 13:28 left in the game.  Alpena got goals from Colby Plowman and Austin Ritter in the 3rd Period to close out the Griffins.  Collin Lightfoot made his first career start for the Wildcats in Goal and would earn his first win of the season.  Alpena (8-1-1, 2-0-0 BNC) will return to BNC play at Traverse City Central on December 21.
