Highlanders Pull Away in the 3rd Period

ALPENA, MI - Howell broke open a 1-1 tie with six goals in the 3rd Period in the Highlanders's 7-1 victory over Alpena on Friday night.  Alpena took the early lead when Brett Ciupka buried a rebound from a Cam Young shot on the Power Play just 3:49 into the game.  Howell tied the game midway through the 2nd Period on a Dominic Rossi wrister.

The third period belonged to Howell after Stefan Frantti gave them the 2-1 lead 3:38 into the final stanza.  Steven Miller and Ryan Moran scored 16-seconds apart to bust open the game with 6:30 remaining.  The Wildcats then called a timeout and pulled netminder Jimmy Bolanowski.  Andrew Mitter wasted no time when he found the empty net just six seconds after the timeout to increase the lead to 5-1.  Jack Johnson and Miller would add Power Play goals just 19 seconds apart late in the game to finish off the Wildcats.
