Late Goal Eliminates Wildcats from Districts

PETOSKEY, MI - The Alpena Boys Soccer team could not make an early lead stick as they were eliminated in the MHSAA District 2 Quarterfinals by Petoskey, 2-1.  Aidan Day gave the Wildcats an early 1-0 lead just five minutes into the opening half.  The lead did not last long as Petoskey tied the game 1-1 just five minutes later.  The two teams battled for the bulk of the game before a corner kick by Petoskey found the back of the net with 13 minutes left.  Alpena finishes the season 11-8-4.

ALCONA, MI - The Alpena Boys Soccer team had just enough to pull out a 2-1 victory over the Alcona Tigers on a rainy Wednesday night.  Aidan Day and Caleb Eaton each scored for the Wildcats who struggled to convert on their multiple scoring chances.  Alcona's Elliot Dubuque cut into the Alpena lead with a goal midway through the 2nd Half.  Wildcat Goalkeeper Wenton Harrison had to make several key plays to preserve the lead throughout the 2nd Half.  Alpena (11-7-4) will open up MHSAA Tournament play on Monday when they travel to Petoskey for the District Quarter Finals.

Wildcats Shut Out by Northmen

PEOTSKEY, MI - The Alpena Boys Soccer team struggled offensively during Tuesday night's foggy 3-0 loss to Petoskey.  The Northmen goals were scored by Nick Hicks, Sean Redman, and Keaton Walker.  Alpena (10-7-4, 1-5-4 BNC) travel to Alcona on Wednesday night.

Wildcats, Vikings Play to Draw

ALPENA, MI - The Alpena Boys Soccer team could not make a one game halftime lead hold up and had to settle for a 2-2 draw with Cadillac on Tuesday night at Wildcat Stadium. Cadillac's Brendan Phillips opened the scoring with 30:23 left in the first half.  Alpena's Aidan Day and Kyle Barbeau responded as they took a 2-1 lead into the locker room. Cadillac got the equalizer with 18:03 left to play when Hayden Watkins found the back of the net.  Alpena (10-4-4, 1-3-4 BNC) will travel to TC West on Thursday. 

Blue Devils Shut Out Wildcats

ALPENA, MI - The Alpena Wildcats Soccer team's hot streak came to an end Thursday night when Gaylord shut them out 2-0 at Wildcat Stadium.  Tyler Ashley gave the Blue Devils a 1-0 lead early in the 2nd Half.  Alpena and Gaylord fought back and forth for the half until Gabe Kleinsorge put the game away with 1:01 left.  The Wildcats (10-4-3, 1-4-3 BNC) host Cadillac on Tuesday night.

ALPENA, MI - The Alpena Soccer team got two first half goals from Grant Botha and their strong defense made it stick in a 2-0 win over Traverse City Central on a rainy Tuesday night at Wildcat Stadium. The Wildcats earned their first win over a Traverse City school in 8 years. They have now won four straight games by a combined 16-1. Alpena (10-3-3, 1-3-3 BNC) will host Gaylord on Thursday night. 

Wildcats Win Huron Shores Invitational

ALPENA, MI - The Alpena Wildcats went 3-0 and earned the Huron Shores Invitational Championship on Saturday at Wildcat Stadium.  In the opening game, the Wildcats got two goals from Aidan Day as they rolled past Cheboygan 5-0.  Noah Carstens and Caleb Eaton also scored in the victory.  In game two, Wildcats took on Kalkaska in the Semi-Finals.  Eaton opened the scoring midway through the 1st half to give the Wildcats a 1-0 halftime lead.  In the 2nd half the Wildcats pulled away with goals from Grant Botha, Aidan Day, and Eaton added a second goal as the Wildcats defeated the Blazers 4-1.  The nightcap saw the Wildcats taking on the Alcona Tigers for the Huron Shores Championship.  Alpena quickly jumped on the Tigers when Day found the back of the net just two minutes into the contest.  Noah Carstens, Caleb Zaborney, and Deven Saranen also scored 1st half goals as Alpena had the 4-0 lead at the half.  The Wildcats would add one more in the 2nd Half and win the Huron Shores Invitational with a 5-0 win over Alcona.  Alpena went 3-0 on the day at outscored their opponents 14-1.  The Wildcats (9-3-3, 0-3-3 BNC) return to conference play on Tuesday when they host Traverse City Central at Wildcat Stadium.

Day Scores Historic Goal in Tie with Petoskey

ALPENA, MI - The Alpena Soccer team fought the nasty weather on Thursday night at Wildcat Stadium to earn a 1-1 tie with Petoskey.  The headline of the game was Alpena's lone goal of the night which was scored by Aidan Day with 15:35 left to play.  Day's goal was the 48th of his Wildcat career which placed him as the leading scorer in Wildcat program history.  Zach Hintz was able to score the equalizer for Petoskey late in the game to force the tie.  Alpena (6-4-3, 0-2-3 BNC) will host their annual Huron Shores Invitational this weekend.

Slow Start Too Much For Wildcats

ALPENA, MI - The Alpena Boys Soccer team fell behind 2-0 in the 1st Half and could not rally in their 3-1 conference loss to TC West on Tuesday night.  The Titans took a quick 1-0 lead on a strike from Gavin Michael in the half's opening minutes.  Just three minutes later West made it 2-0 after Tony Gallegos converted on a scoring opportunity.  Alpena came out in the 2nd half and cut the defect to one goal after Aidan Day found the back of the net.  However, the Titans killed the Wildcat rally just five minutes later when Finn Durbin took advantage of a free kick to put TC West back up by two goals.  Alpena (6-4-2, 0-2-2 BNC) will host Petoskey on Thursday night at Wildcat Stadium.

CADILLAC, MI - The Alpena Soccer team got a 2nd Half goal from Deven Saranen to salvage a 1-1 tie against league leader Cadillac on Thursday night.  Cadillac (8-1-1) entered the game as the front-runner in the BNC and took a 1-0 lead into the 2nd Half.  Saranen was set up by Grant Botha to get Alpena on the board later in the half.  Alpena (6-3-2, 0-1-2 BNC) host TC West next Tuesday.

GAYLORD, MI - The Alpena Boys Soccer team got a tremendous defensive effort as they played the Gaylord Blue Devils to a 0-0 draw Tuesday night at the Gaylord Intermediate School.  Wenton Harrison picked up his fifth shutout of the season. Alpena (6-3-1, 0-1-1 BNC) will play at Cadillac on Thursday night.

ALPENA, MI - The Alpena Varsity Soccer team got two goals from Grant Botha in their 4-0 non-conference victory over Harbor Springs on Monday night at Wildcat Stadium.  Aidan Day and Noah Carstens also chipped in with goals as Alpena jumped out to a 4-0 halftime lead and made it stick.  Alpena (6-3, 0-1 BNC) travel to Gaylord on Tuesday.

Alpena Drops Conference Opener to Trojans

TRAVERSE CITY, MI - The Alpena Soccer team could not capitalize on numerous quality scoring chances, including a penalty kick, and fell to Traverse City Central 1-0 in the conference opener for both teams on Thursday night.  The Trojans lone goal came on a 25-foot laser that found the back of the net.  Alpena (5-3, 0-1 BNC) will host Harbor Springs on Monday night.

ALPENA, MI - The Alpena Boys Soccer team continued their hot streak by winning their fifth straight game with a 8-1 win over the Tawas Area Braves on Tuesday night at Wildcat Stadium. Aidan Day and Grant Botha each had a hat trick to pace the Wildcats offense. Alpena (5-2) will start BNC play on Thursday at TC Central.

BAY CITY, MI - The Alpena Wildcats Soccer team ended a successful week with their third straight shutout after a 4-0 victory over Bay City John Glenn on Thursday. Aidan Day scored 3 Goals while Devin Saranen netted one to pace the Wildcats offense. Wenton Harrison and the defense posted their 3rd straight shutout. Alpena (4-2) host Tawas Area High School on September 4 at Wildcat Stadium.

ALPENA, MI - The Alpena Varsity Soccer team got 4 goals from Aidan Day on Tueaday night as they dominated the Sault Area Blue Devils, 8-0.  Grant Botha added two goals, Wenton Harrison, Noah Carstens, and Caleb Zaborney also scored for the Wildcats (3-2).  Alpena travels to Bay City John Glenn on Thursday.

Wildcats Pull Away From Oscoda

OSCODA, MI - The Wildcats broke open a tight game after leading 1-0 at half and cruised to a 7-0 win over Oscoda. Jake Schiller and Aidan Day each scored 2 goals to even our record at 2-2 heading into tomorrow night against Sault Ste. Marie.
