Titans Score Late, Top Wildcats

ALPENA, MI - The Alpena Girls Soccer team gave up a late goal and saw their 5-game winning streak snapped in a 1-0 loss against Traverse City West on Tuesday night.  Jaelyn Dobrowski scored with 2:24 to play to give the Titans the late lead and Alpena was unable to mount a comeback.  Eden Zann stopped nine of the ten Titans shots that were fired at her and she kept Alpena in the game all night.  Alpena (8-5-0, 2-3-0 BNC) host Petoskey on Thursday night.

Wildcats Shut-Out Northmen

PETOSKEY, MI - The Alpena Girls Soccer team won their fifth straight game with a 2-0 win over Petoskey on Monday night.  Mollie Girard scored in the opening half and Anna Young added an insurance goal early in the 2nd half.  Eden Zann went the distance in goal for the Wildcats, earning the shutout.  Alpena (8-4-0, 2-2-0 BNC) host TC West on Tuesday night.

Wildcats Win Ogemaw Heights Tournament

WEST BRANCH, MI - The Alpena Girls Soccer team knocked off Marquette for the first time in school history, 1-0, to win the Ogemaw Heights Tournament on Saturday.  Kameron Schultz scored the lone goal, on an assist from Kennedy Kaiser, and Edie Zann kept the Redmen off the board in the Championship game.  Alpena has had victories over Ogemaw Heights (7-0), Sault Ste Marie (4-0), and Tawas (2-0).  Alpena (7-4, 1-2 BNC) travel to Petoskey on Monday night.

Wildcats Pick Up BNC Win

GAYLORD, MI - The Alpena girls soccer team picked up a key Big North Conference victory over Gaylord, 2-1, on Tuesday night in Gaylord.  Mollie Girard converted a corner kick just five minutes into the game to give the Wildcats the early lead.  Later in the half, Girard increased the lead with her second goal of the game with a beautiful shot from 30-feet out.  The Blue Devils cut the deficit when Becca Ross converted an unassisted goal in the second half.  The Wildcats played strong defense to keep Gaylord from scoring the equalizer to pull the upset of the previously undefeated Blue Devils.  Alpena (3-3-0, 1-1-0 BNC) travel to Cadillac on Thursday.

Trojans Outscore Wildcats

ALPENA, MI - The Alpena girls soccer team struggled defensively in their 6-4 Big North Conference loss to Traverse City Central on Thursday night.  The wet conditions led to an offensive explosion in the opening half as the two teams each scored three goals.  The Trojans opened the scoring just five minutes into the game when Anna Wuerful's long kick found the back of the net.  Sarah Campbell tied the game for the Wildcats off a corner kick opportunity.  Anna Young continued her hot streak when she sprinted past the entire Trojan defense and buried the ball into the open net.  Emma Dutmers scored a similar goal for the Trojans to tie the game a 2-2 just a free minutes later.  With 12:00 to play in the half, Mollie Girard converted a free kick to give Alpena the lead once again.  Wuerful finished the scoring in the opening half when she tied the game at 3-3 late in the 1st Half.  Wuerful scored her third and fourth goals of the game in the 2nd half to push the Trojans ahead 5-3.  Anna Young cut the lead with her second goal of the game with 17:46 to play.  The Trojans put the game away on Dutmers's second goal of the game.  Alpena (2-3, 0-1 BNC) travel to Gaylord on Tuesday.

Ramblers Top Wildcats in Home Opener

ALPENA, MI - The Alpena Girls Soccer team fell 2-0 to Boyne City at Wildcat Stadium on Tuesday evening.  The Ramblers scored twice in a span of seven minutes in the first half with goals from Inanna Hauger and Jordan Noble.  The Ramblers outshot the Wildcats 12-3.  Edie Zann made several key stops in the 1st half to keep the Wildcats within striking distance, as did Alexandria Villarreal who played the 2nd Half in goal.  Alpena (2-2) open up BNC play on Thursday at 6pm when they host Traverse City Central.

TAWAS, MI - The Alpena Girls Soccer team started off strong and cruised to a 4-0 win over Tawas on Friday night.  Anna Young continued her hot start to the year with her fourth goal to give Alpena the early lead.  Tayor Tolsdorf, Kami Schiltz, and Alexis Pilarski scored the other three goals in the victory.  Edie Zann and Alexdria VIllarreal split time in goal for the shutout.  Alpena (2-1) host Boyne City on Tuesday night in their home opener.

Wildcats Dominate Owls for First Win of 2019

OSCODA, MI - The Alpena Girls Soccer team got goals from six different scorers in their 8-0 victory over Oscoda on Tuesday night.  Kennedy Kaiser and Hannah Burger led the offensive attack with two goals each for the Wildcats.  Anna Young scored her third goal of the season and added four assists on the night.  Mollie Girard, Taylor Tolsdorf, and Sarah Campbell also scored goals for Alpena.  Defensively it was Edie Zann, Alex Villarreal, and Josalyn Bailey that all combined for the shutout.  Alpena (1-1) are at Tawas on Friday at 5pm.

Wildcats Fall in Season Opener

SAGINAW, MI - The Alpena Girls Soccer team opened the 2019 season with a 4-2 loss to Swan Valley on Monday night.  The Wildcats started strong as Mollie Girard set up Anna Young less than three minutes into the game to give Alpena the 1-0 lead.  The Vikings responded with three goals of their own to take a 3-1 lead into the halftime break.  Early in the second half, Swan Valley converted on a breakaway to take a 4-1 lead.  With eighteen minutes left to play Taylor Tolsdorf assisted on Young's second goal of the night to pull the Wildcats to within two goals.  Alpena (0-1) will travel to Oscoda on Tuesday night for a 5pm game.
