Wildcats Fall in District Quarter Finals

PETOSKEY, MI - The Alpena Volleyball team fell in the District Quarterfinals in a three-game sweep (19-25, 15-25, and 11-25) at the hands of Traverse City Central in the Division 1 district quarterfinal on Monday night.

Allie DeRocher had five kills and nine digs and Aubree Sheldon had 11 digs.

Alpena finished the season 18-16-3 record.

Wildcats Sweep Falcons on Senior Night

ALPENA, MI - The Alpena Volleyball team celebrated the careers of seven Seniors in a three-game sweep of Ogemaw Heights on Monday night at Gillespie Gymnasium.  Prior to the game, the Wildcats honored Aubree Sheldon, Meghan Roznowski, Edie Zann, Mackenzie Precord, Emma Dockrill, Macy Dickinson, and Maddy Saddler.  Once the game began the Wildcats played off of the emotion to 25-21, 25-16, and 25-23 victories to complete the sweep.  Dockrill led the Wildcat cause with 8-of-11 attacks from the net, while Zann had two blocks and five digs.  Fellow Seniors Meghan Roznowski and Aubree Sheldon had eight digs each.

Alpena (18-14-3) wrap-up the regular season at Petoskey on Wednesday before opening District Play at Petoskey with Traverse City Central on November 4.

Wildcats Fall to Titans in BNC Clash

ALPENA, MI - The Alpena Volleyball team pushed TC West into extra points in two sets but eventually fell, 3-1, to the Titans on Wednesday night at the Gillespie Gymnasium.  In set one, the Titans and Wildcats were tied 11 times throughout before TC West broke a 24-24 tie to win 26-24.  The Wildcats jumped out to a 10-5 lead in set two before the Titans went on a 12-3 lead to regain control.  Alpena responded by scoring nine straight points and holding on to a 25-23 win.  The Titans would win the next two sets (25-18, 28-26) but it was anything but easy.  The fourth set saw nine ties and the two teams found themselves ties 24-24.  After the Wildcats took a 25-24 lead, the Titans used their size at the net to pull out a thrilling 28-26 win.

Allie DeRocher led the Wildcat effort with 12 kills, 11 digs and a pair of blocks. Defensively, Meghan Roznowski had nine digs and Mackenzie Precord and Kate Skiba each had 11 digs.  Emma Dockrill and Jade Gray finished with seven kills each.

Alpena (17-14-3, 3-6 BNC) host Ogemaw Heights on Monday at 6:30pm for Senior Night.

Vikings Sweep Wildcats, Earn Share of BNC

CADILLAC, MI - The Cadillac Vikings used a strong defensive strategy and strong serving to sweep the Alpena Volleyball team (25-14, 25-11, 25-19) on Wednesday night.  The win clinches a share of the BNC Championship for Cadillac.  Alpena (14-12-3, 3-5 BNC) is at Pinconning on Saturday for the Spartan Invitational.

Trojans Rally, Defeat Wildcats in Five

ALPENA, MI - The Alpena Volleyball team powered to victories in sets two and three but couldn't finish off the Trojans in a five-game loss on Thursday night in the annual Pink Game at the Gillespie Gymnasium.  The Trojans jumped on the Wildcats early in set one as the height of Central's front line paced them to an 11-0 lead.  Alpena managed to climb back into the game thanks to the serving of Meghan Roznowski, but the Trojans finished set one with the 25-19 win.  Alpena made quick adjustments to turn the game with 25-21 and 25-23 victories in sets two and three.  Kate Skiba's strong serving in set two allowed the Wildcats to make a 7-0 run and claim a 12-7 lead.  After the Trojans tied the set at 20, Alpena scored five of the last six points to even the match.  Set three would be a battle as the two teams found themselves tied on eight different occasions.  Alpena would make the critical points when necessary for the 25-23 win.  The Trojans took control of set four, leading 19-10, thanks to the strong play of Emma Turnquist, Sarah Auger, and Maggie McCrary.  After winning the set 25-21, the Trojans owned the winner take all fifth set leading 10-3 with relative ease.  Alpena would attempt a late rally but the Trojans finished off their comeback with a 15-7 victory.

The Wildcats were led by Edie Zann's 16 kills and Emma Dockrill's 13.  Alison DeRocher contributed six critical kills during the Wildcat surge in sets two and three.  

Alpena (13-11-3, 2-4 BNC) travel to Gaylord on October 9.

Wildcats Sweep Braves

ALPENA, MI - The Alpena Volleyball team geared up for a major test on Thursday with a 3-0 sweep over Tawas on Monday night at the Gillespie Gymnasium.  The Wildcats made quick work of the Braves in set 1 with a 25-8 win.  The next two sets proved to be more of a grind as the Braves made several runs to keep each set close.  Alpena would still prevail with the 25-16 and 25-20 set victories to finish off the Braves in three. 

Kate Skiba showed her power with 10 service aces during the three-game sweep, to go with her 10 digs and three kills.  Edie Zann continued her strong play with 11 kills and three aces.  Alison DeRocher also played strong with 10 kills and 10 digs.

Alpena (13-10-3, 2-3 BNC) host TC Central on Thursday night for their annual Pink Game.

Wildcats Defeat Northmen in Five Sets

ALPENA MI - The Alpena Volleyball team rallied to defeat the Petoskey Northmen in five sets on Thursday night at the Gillespie Gymnasium.  After a 25-20 victory in set one, the Wildcats watched Petoskey take the next two sets (25-22 and 25-15).  Alpena rallied in set three (25-21) behind strong net play to force a fifth and deciding set five.  In the final set, the Wildcats and Northmen were tied at 7-7 when Kate Skiba took the ball to serve.  The Wildcats used that opportunity to go on an 8-0 run to finish off the Northmen, 15-7, and take the match.

Edie Zann and Emma Dockrill each finished with 13 kills.  Macy Dickinson continued her strong play with 45 assists and Allie DeRocher had 11 kills.  The Wildcats (12-10-3, 2-3 BNC) host Tawas on Monday at 7pm.  Alpena will then welcome TC Central on Tuesday for their annual Pink Game.

Titans Defeat Wildcats in Four

TRAVERSE CITY, MI - 

TRAVERSE CITY, MI - The Alpena Volleyball team battled the TC West Titans but fell in four games in Traverse City on Tuesday night.  After falling 25-12 in game one, the Wildcats responded with a 25-21 victory in game two.  The Titans then held off the Wildcats in game three (25-21) and game four (25-21) for the victory.

Edie Zann had 12 kills and 5 blocks, while Emma Dockrill added 8 kills.  Kate Skiba was solid on defense with 16 digs and added 7 kills offensively.  Macy Dickinson filled up the stat sheet with 32 assists, 12 digs, 7 kills, and 3 blocks.

Alpena (11-10-3, 3-1 BNC) host Petoskey on Thursday.

#9 Vikings Sweep Alpena

ALPENA, MI - The Alpena Volleyball team fell victim to untimely mistakes in a three-game sweep to #9 Cadillac on Wednesday night at the Gillespie Gymnasium.  The Wildcats opened up all three games with an early lead but saw Cadillac rally behind strong net play and untimely miscues by Alpena.  After opening game 1 with a 4-0 lead, Alpena couldn't carry the momentum as Cadillac tied the match at 10-10 and then saw the Vikings go on a 9-2 run to win game 1, 25-18.  After a 25-19 loss in game two, the Wildcats held a 12-9 lead in game three only to see another Viking rally put away a 25-22 win and complete the sweep.  Edie Zann had nine kills, five blocks, and one assist, while Macy Dickinson contributed 24 assists.  The Wildcats (8-7-3, 1-2 BNC) travel to the Saginaw Heritage Tournament on Saturday.

Wildcats Sweep Blue Devils

ALPENA, MI - The Alpena Volleyball team got timely defense and strong serving to sweep the Gaylord Blue Devils Wednesday night at the Gillespie Gymnasium.  Alpena won set one 25-12, set two 25-22, and set three 25-17.  Kate Skiba and Edie Zann led the Wildcat offense with 10 kills each, while Macy Dickinson had 23 assists.  Alpena (8-6-3, 1-1 BNC) host #9 Cadillac on September 18.

Wildcats Go 2-2 at Mitten Bay Tournament

BAY CITY, MI - The Alpena Volleyball team went 2-2 at the Mitten Bay Tournament on Saturday at Bay City Central.  The Wildcats lost to Carlton Airport (25-18, 25-17) in their opening game but rallied to defeat Linden (26-24, 27-25) and Saginaw (25-8, 25-9) in pool play.  The Wildcats advanced to the Gold Division in bracket play, where they were knocked out by Bronson (25-18, 25-22).  Alpena (7-6-3) host Gaylord on Wednesday at 7pm.

TRAVERSE CITY, MI - The Alpena Varsity Volleyball team lost to Traverse City Central in three games (23-25, 12-25, 13-25) on Wednesday night.  Edie Zann had 7 kills and 2 blocks, while Kami Schultz and Allie Derocher each added 6 kills.

Wildcats Go 3-0 in Varsity Quad

ALPENA, MI - The Alpena Wildcats Volleyball team hosted a quad with Cheboygan, Rogers City, and Hillman. Alpena defeated Cheboygan (25-16, 25-16, 25-22), Rogers City (25-6, 25-21, 25-17), and Hillman (25-18, 25-6, 25-11).


Edie Zann lead the wildcats with 22 kills and 3 Aces, Macy Dickinson had 65 assists and 11 Aces. Kate Skiba had 8 Aces,18 kills, and 15 defensive Digs. Allie DeRocher had 4 Aces, 21 Kills, 5 blocks, and 13 Defensive Digs.

Alpena (5-3-3) open up Big North Conference play on September 4 at Traverse City Central.
